How I Created a Professional Job Profile Picture Using AI

Hi there 👋 This is Yulie.

I recently tried using AI to generate a professional profile picture for my job applications. The process was fast—but not without its surprises.

Here’s what happened:

Step 1: Upload Your Selfie

I started with a clear selfie of myself. My goal was simple: a professional, job-ready picture with formal attire without buying formal clothes.

Step 2: First Attempt: Unexpected Results

The AI generated a picture quickly—but I wasn’t expecting this: it showed me wearing a suit with a necktie… like a guy, or a teenager wearing a school uniform...

It was accurate in terms of formal attire, but definitely not what I wanted. (Somehow I liked it.)

Step 3: Refining the Request

I asked the AI to change the clothes to a female suit. The next image looked closer, but my face had a lot of unnatural edits, almost like heavy Photoshop. It looked polished but not really me. I liked this picture but I look like full of plastic surgery.

Step 4: Trial and Error Pays Off

After several attempts, I finally got a picture that worked:

  • My face and hair remained true to the original

  • Only the clothes changed to a professional female suit

  • The background stayed clean and neutral

It took a bit of patience, but the result was worth it. I ended up with a polished, professional profile picture that felt authentic—without a photoshoot.

If you wanna try it out, here’s how to structure the prompt.

1. Keep the Original Face

  • Emphasize that the AI should not alter facial features or hair.

  • Example wording: “Keep my face and hair exactly as in the original photo.”

2. Change the Clothes

  • Specify professional attire: “Change my clothing to a professional business outfit—blazer, blouse, or suit.”

3. Adjust the Background

  • Replace casual backgrounds with something neutral and professional: “Use a clean, neutral background suitable for a CV or LinkedIn profile.”

4. Expression and Lighting

  • Ensure the expression and lighting are appropriate: “Keep a natural, approachable expression with good lighting.”

5. Keep It Realistic

  • Avoid over-editing or cartoonish effects: “Do not alter facial features, over-smooth skin, or add unrealistic effects.”

I am pretty satisfied with the result.

Since my goal was to get a professional, job-ready picture with formal attire, without buying formal clothes. Also, I can see what I would look like in a suit...👔
