The Malmö Summer Hack: Ven Island Day Trip for Under 200 SEK (The Summer Card Strategy)

Hello everyone, I'm Yulie!

Today, I want to write about a day trip I took this summer to Ven Island (Hven). It's a fantastic, budget-friendly destination that is easily accessible while living in Malmö.

The Skåne Summer Card Transport Hack

The key to the low cost of this trip is a local hack: the Skåne Summer Transport Card.

  • The Card: In the summer (mid-June to mid-August), you can buy a special two-month transport card for the southern Swedish region of Skåne.

  • The Benefit: This single card allows for unlimited travel anywhere within Skåne. This meant my train ride from Malmö to Landskrona was covered for free!

So, the actual cost of the entire trip was simply the round-trip ferry ticket—making it a perfect, low-stress day out.

Landskrona to Ven Island Ferry

  • Malmö --> Landskrona: Free with the Summer Transport Card.

  • Landskrona --> Ven Island: Purchase of the ferry ticket required.

The ferry ride from Landskrona harbor to Ven Island is quick. In the summer, the ferries run frequently, making travel very convenient. As soon as you step off the boat, the vacation feeling hits you instantly! It was perfect for a full-day trip, leaving in the morning and returning in the evening.

Getting Around Ven Island

When you arrive, most people rent bicycles to get around. Ven Island is not large, making it the perfect size to cycle around the whole island. The roads are simple, the scenery is beautiful, and it's perfect for stopping for photos.

Note: Since it was my first time visiting, I chose to explore the island on foot.

Simple, Healing Island Scenery

Ven Island is not packed with major tourist attractions, and that is precisely what I loved about it. The day was filled with simple pleasures:

  • Small villages with beautiful, quaint houses.

  • Calm, sweeping sea views.

  • Plenty of space to sit in a field and relax.

  • Stopping at a small café for a cool drink.
